I watched the movie The Road To El Dorado. This movie has the voice talent of Kevin Kline (Bob's Burgers), Rosie Perez (Birds Of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of Harley Quinn), and Kenneth Branagh (Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets).
The story is about two swindlers who get their hands on a map to the fabled city of gold, El Dorado, while pulling off some sort of scam. Their plan goes bad and the rogues end up lost at sea after several misfortunes. Oddly enough, they end up on the shores of El Dorado, and are worshipped by the natives for their foreign appearances.
I give this movie 2 out of 5 stars.
I had not seen this movie in 20 years. I originally saw it in theatres shortly after it came out and I remember really enjoying it back then. However watching it now, it just did not live up to the memories.
Fun Facts:
- Voice artists in animated movies usually record their parts alone, with no other actors or actresses in the studio with them. In a break with this tradition, Kline and Branagh recorded their dialogue together.
- A series of sequels featuring Miguel, Tulio, Chel, Altivo, and even the armadillo going after other legends about gold was planned, but following the disappointing box-office results, they were immediately cancelled.
- The armadillo that follows Miguel and Tulio throughout is named Bibo, after co-director of the movie.
- When Chel and Tulio are making out on the ground and suddenly stand up, she is quite far from his head which indicates that she was not kissing him on the mouth. And in the unreleased sequel that was in production but cancelled, they have a son as a result of their frequent sexual intercourse throughout the film.
